    The appraisal process is a vital tool to communicate an organisation's safety culture values, helping shape a sustainable and robust 'safety climate' onboard ships. The performance appraisal process of a seafarer is a cohesive exercise between office HR, various office departments (HSEQ, Operations, Technical, Vetting) and the employee. The appraisal process of a seafarer differs starkly from the performance appraisal process for a shore-based employee.
